One of the most popular and widely-used of all JavaScript libraries, jQuery allows developers to carry out complex DOM manipulations, respond to user events, and much more - all in much fewer lines of code than would be required in vanilla JS. Many other JS libraries are built on top of it, including Bootstrap.
